Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to my campaign page!
My name is Māwera Karetai and I am a candidate for the Bay of Plenty District Health Board. My candidacy is endorsed by the New Zealand Labour Party.
Originally from Dunedin, I moved to the Bay of Plenty 31 years ago and have made Whakatāne my forever home. I live here with three of my four children, and my husband, Dave. Dave and I have a business based in Whakatāne, and lots of community involvement from kid’s sport, to teaching hunting and fishing as a lifestyle. We feel fortunate to be part of this community.
Over the years I have amassed some useful skills and experience that I put to use as much as I can. My CV is here. I welcome the opportunity to my knowledge, connections and my vision for our community to a role, serving on our DHB. As Dr Suess wrote in the Lorax, “Unless some like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not!”. And that is the challenge I have taken up for the balance on my professional life – making things better. My areas of interest prevention, the first 1000 days for our young, elder care and the impact of our environment on our health.
